We build apps that stay out of your way.

Smart Living Apps is an app studio. We design and build focused mobile apps: home-screen widgets, reminders and everyday tools that work offline, speak your language and never ask for more than they need.

Awaited counts down to a trip in 23 days, a demo today in 2 hours 45 minutes and a birthday next week. Bubble reminds you of an errand as you arrive.

What we build

Native Android apps with a narrow focus, made to feel calm in the hand and to keep working for years.

  • Android apps, start to store

Native Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, from the first sketch to the Play Store listing and the updates after it.

  • Home-screen widgets

Glanceable widgets that refresh on schedule without draining the battery.

  • Offline first

Your users' data lives on their phone. No account, no server bill, no outage.

  • Localization

Translated, pluralized and mirrored for right-to-left languages from the first release.

  • Product design

We cut features until each screen does one job, then make that job feel effortless.

Have an idea that's half-formed? That's the best time to talk.

Our apps

We build our own products first. They're where we test every idea before it goes into yours.

Android widget

Awaited

A countdown on your home screen for the things you're waiting for.

Pick an event from your calendar and Awaited counts down to it right on the home screen: days while it's far away, hours and minutes on the day itself, seconds in the last minute, then a notification when it arrives.

Android app

Bubble

Reminders that wait for you to arrive, not for a time.

Save a reminder for a place and Bubble taps you on the shoulder when you get there, as a floating bubble while you're using the phone or a notification when the screen is off.

How a project runs

Four stages, with something you can hold on your phone at the end of each.

  1. Find the one job

We talk through what you want people to get done and agree on the single thing the app has to do well.

  2. Design the smallest version

A clickable prototype you can hold on your own phone, so decisions happen on the device rather than in a document.

  3. Build and test on real devices

Regular builds you can install, tested across screen sizes, Android versions and languages.

  4. Ship and look after it

We handle the store release, watch the crash reports and keep the app current as Android changes.
